Chivas fall to Santos in La Comarca

02/08/2020 21:20 / Javier Quezada

Torreon, Coahuila.- Chivas battled to find their best form in Torreón and fell 2-0 to los Guerreros in Matchday 2 of Guard1anes 2020 this Sunday night at Estadio TSM.

In the 5th minute Santos took an early lead as a corner kick found Fernando Gorriarán open who then unleashed a right footed rocket from the centre of the box past Antonio Rodriguez. Seven minutes later, Santos again, Eduardo Aguirre's header was brilliantly saved by 'Toño'.

Chivas seemed to come alive a few minutes later with two important chances, the first in the 33rd minute as 'Conejo' shot from outside the box that went straight into Acevedos’ hands. Again in the 34rd minute JJ fired from his right foot, but the ball was deflected by Acevedo.

In the next play, Sebastian Martinez received the ball in the PK spot but his header went off target. By the end of the first half, at the 41st minute Diego Valdes laced it home after a good dribble past a Rojiblanco defender, but VAR over ruled the goal as Valdes had stepped on 'Chicote's' leg previous to the shot.

The second half started just as the first half did as Santos went all in and in the 52nd minute Gorriaran got a brace with a right footed shot into the far post after a nice pass from Valdes. El Rebaño Sagrado tried to fight back as in the 57th minute ‘Chicote’ took a chip shot that Carlos Acevedo saved in spectacular fashion, then in the 60th minute Uriel Antuna reached the goal line after a good run to then cross the ball straight into the box looking for Macias but JJ’s header barely went off target to the right.

‘Cone’ & ‘Chicote’ began to team up and created some chances for the tapatio side. In the 68th minute Brizuela found a wide open Calderon who riffled a shot straight into the GK’s hands. Minute 77 Christian shot towards the far post, but once again Acevedo made a good save. Santos tried to put the game to rest in the 82nd minute as Valdes banged his shot straight into the base of the right post. In stoppage time, Macias had the chance to pull one back for Chivas as the VAR awarded a PK after a handball in the box, but Acevedo managed to save the shot. Matchweek 3 of Guard1anes 2020, Guadalajara will host Puebla next Saturday night at Estadio Akron.
