The xoloitzcuintle dog, whose history dates back more than 3,500 years, played an important role in pre-Columbian life. The name xoloitzcuintle, a tongue twister, comes from two words in the ancient language of the Aztecs: Xólotl, god of sunset and death, and itzcuintli, or dog.

According to Aztec belief, Xólotl's dog had been created by the gods to protect the living and guide the souls of the dead through the dangerous paths of Mictlán, the underworld.

It remains to be seen if the Xoloitzcuintle will be our protector or our guide towards the underworld.

Next Saturday night, Chiva-Bretheren the world over will be witness to the first of four, pardon the pun, dog eat dog matches, where the Beloved Red and White will once more be thrust into the struggle for a place in the playoffs and most importantly, to try and wrap up the tournament with a degree of decorum. We can lose, pero importan las formas.

Believe it or not, statistically speaking, Chivas are still in the run for Copa. With twelve spots available, Guadalajara could squeak into post-season with nine more points. Three wins. Yes, the world is a crazy place. LOL. Many friends and contemporary’s, not to mention talking heads and assorted gold-diggers, say, ¿Ya pa’ que? Ya parale de sufrir. So, call me a masochist. There is always a positive side to everything. It’s not that I like suffering. I’d just rather look on the bright side.

On top of that, I hate losing. I don’t like losing “ni en las canicas”.

First and foremost, this is Chivas (SPARTA). We don’t play the losing game well. I am going to go out on a limb and affirm that the lads in Red and White who are doing the ground work are similarly minded. I disagree with those that say they are purposefully playing badly. For any person who has grown up being a part of competitive sport, such as soccer, there is no way in Mictlán that losing is an alternative.

Chivas are going through a transformation. There is a lack of communication within the team and it is very clearly the reason behind our poor results. Vuce and his Red and White Band of Brothers need to find new ways of communication. It cannot be one sided, especially in this day and age where interpersonal skills have found themselves reduced to a few hastily typed lines in social-media. Players and the Managing Crew need to rebuild and transform. I can see a new generation of players rising from the shambles, in shiny new armor. Much experienced and battle hardened. A new Chivas.

The War Goats.

Whatever may befall us in the following weeks, I remain part of the Chiva-Faithful. I am not blind to our current situation. I am supportive of my Club and my Colors. I say to those Chiva-Melones, si no estas en las malas, then what are you doing here? Personally, I believe we can do it and will always believe. If you don’t, pues… Allí esta la puerta.
