Controversy and 'Roscas' in the Chivas debut against Juárez

02/07/2022 19:20 / Javier Quezada

Guadalajara ended up with a 0-0 tie against FC Juárez this Saturday afternoon at the Akron, in their debut in the Apertura 2022 Tournament, due to the VAR, which annulled a couple of controversial goals, added to a lack of accuracy in front of the opponent's goal.

The start of the match was bittersweet for our Rebaño, as at the 11th minute, Alexis Vega escaped at full speed towards the goal, left his marker with a twisting motion and shot with power, the ball crashed against the crossbar and was left alive in the small area where Carlos Cisneros appeared to accidentally push it into the back of the net, however, the goal was annulled by the VAR due to an alleged handball by 'Charal' at the moment of impact. At 16', Luis Olivas made a long conversion from his own half, the 'Charal' brought it down perfectly and then put in a cross that 'Chelo' Zaldívar came up just short of connecting.

Cisneros appeared again at minute 26 to send a cross to the far post that Alexis Vega headed back towards the far post, again the center backs prevented Zaldívar from putting the ball home. Both teams tried to put numbers on the board with long-range shots, but neither 'Nene' Beltrán's shot at 26', nor Darwin Machis' at 37' had any direction to the goal.

It seemed that Chivas would go to the break with a more than deserved lead on the scoreboard, but the VAR annulled yet another goal for Chiverío, as 'Chelo' capitalized off a bad deflection by Talavera to push it into the goal, and he was offside at the start of the play.

From the start of the second half, the Tapatíos went all out in a bid to for the three points. At minute 52, 'Nene' filtered through the center to give 'Chicote' an advantage, but Talavera rushed the shot. At minute 54, Alan Mozo, off the bench, projected 'Charal' down the right flank. Cisneros on the back line, crossed to Alexis, who headed the ball in, but without sufficient power. On the next play, Vega shook off the mark of 2 defenders, with a self-pass included, and then put in a powerful mid level center, but no one was able to send the ball into the back of the net.

At minute 60, 'Chicote' put in a cross that Hiram headed inside the area, but Talavera stoically stood his ground to keep out the point-blank header from 'Tiba', who was unmarked. Four minutes later, Alexis tried to surprise by going direct from a long-distance free kick, but the ball skirted past the outside of the net. As the minutes went by, Guadalajara lost punch in attack and the visitors closed the spaces, which balanced the actions.
