Chivas drew at Toluca with a lack of punch and a lot of controversy

04/09/2022 20:00 / Enrique Noriega

Toluca.- It is undeniable that the match was complicated for Guadalajara, as they faced Toluca, who took control of the ball and forced Ricardo Cadena’s team to rethink the game, but... Could Chivas have won? YES, but they lacked of punch and there was also a refereeing controversy in 2 key plays that resulted in a 0-0 draw, in the match corresponding to Week 12 of the Apertura 2022.

The game began with a tense calm, as despite there were not dangerous approaches, there was the feeling that at any moment someone could hurt the opponent's goal.

The best of the first half:
- The first dangerous action came from Los Diablos at 16', when Fernando Navarro kicked a free kick that promised a lot, however 'Wacho' Jiménez dived and 2-handed the ball out of the angle.
- It took 30 minutes for El Rebaño to make its presence felt in Volpi's goal, thanks to a good run by Roberto Alvarado that left Alexis Vega alone, who got the Brazilian goalkeeper off his back, but a defender prevented him from pushing it into the net.
- At 40', 'Piojo' came within a whisker of opening the scoreboard, after a good cross from Chiverío's 10, Alvarado connected the ball with his left foot, but his shot went just wide.

The best of the second half:
- At the 48' mark, Vega once again put the Choricero goalkeeper to the test, as he took out 2 opponents with a cutback and then kicked a left-footed shot to the base of the post, where Volpi denied him with a handball.
- Carlos González had the first chance for Toluca at 56', after a diagonal from Fernando Navarro left the ball for the Paraguayan striker inside the box, but his shot went just over the crossbar.
- Alexis appeared on the left flank at 76' and when he reached the final third, he put in a 3-finger cross that Cisneros headed in, but the Scarlets' goalkeeper was again a factor, catching the ball.
- At 80', Vega again came up just short of being the star of the match when he got past one of the Choricero players at the edge of the area and then fired a cross-shot that Volpi saved with one hand.
- Miguel Jiménez didn’t want to be left behind and became the star player when he miraculously saved a powerful shot by Daniel Álvarez at 90'+4'.
