A flash back of Chivas’ big win over Pumas in their last playoff clash

27/11/2023 16:45 / Enrique Noriega

Although the wait was long due to the FIFA Date and the Play In matches, Guadalajara is ready to kick off the Liguilla for the Apertura 2023 and the series against Pumas, their Quarter Final opponent, has a lot of history but in which a recent precedent stands out in this do-or-die stage.

The last time these teams faced each other in a Final Phase was in the Playoffs of the Clausura 2022 and on the lines below we will relive a great night of soccer at the Akron.

From the very first minute of the match, the atmosphere was one of absolute celebration and, together with their fans, Guadalajara managed to play their best soccer to leave the Universitarios on the wayside with a scandalous 4-1 victory.

The game started with a goal by 'Chicote' Calderón at 12', but the Felinos equalized at 19' through Diogo. The rest of the first half was a game of alternating dominance, although Guadalajara's chances had been much more dangerous.

In the second half, the story was very different, as 'Nene' Beltrán scored an incredible goal at 51', which allowed the dynamics of the game to change and forced Pumas to take more risks in attack. It was in the final stretch of the match that the Rebaño put an end to the story, as, at 87', José Juan Macías scored the 3-1 and, two minutes later, Alexis Vega closed the score with a right-footed goal.
