With a solid performance and a strong show of authority, Mexico advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile after defeating the host team 4-1 in Valparaíso.
The Rojiblancos played an important role in the scoring, as Hugo Camberos scored twice in five minutes to seal the Andean team's fate. First, in the 81st minute, he pushed a diagonal shot into the area unmarked and then, in a similar play in the 86th minute, he came in from the second line to connect with a shot to the near post that was impossible for the goalkeeper to save.
Hugo came on as a substitute in the 77th minute for Gilberto Mora, with the aim of helping the Mexican team control the game from the midfield and create more opportunities up front to seal the victory. Meanwhile, Yael Padilla and Sebastián Liceaga remained on the bench.
El Tri now awaits its opponent in the quarterfinals, where it will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Nigeria on Saturday, October 11, at 5 p.m., at the Julio Martínez Prádanos National Stadium in Santiago.
