The history of Guadalajara is full of memorable chapters, but few are as unique and endearing as that of the Calderón brothers: twins Ignacio and Carlos, two brothers who not only dedicated themselves to soccer, but also defended the colors of Club Deportivo Guadalajara during the golden age of the Campeonísimo.
Today, on their 82nd birthday, the entire Rojiblanca Nation comes together to celebrate these two figures who left their mark on the history of Chivas. That's why we're remembering the five most memorable moments of this legendary duo with the Rebaño.
1. Birth of two Rojiblancos legends: Ignacio and Carlos Calderón González were born on December 13, 1943, so today we celebrate their 82 years of life.
2. Talent at both ends of the field: Although they shared the same last name and birthday, their talents were expressed in different ways; 'Nacho' Calderón shone as a goalkeeper, and Carlos Calderón contributed goals and unpredictability to the Rebaño Sagrado's offense.
3. 'Nacho' Calderón, star of Chivas and the Mexican national team: Ignacio's great performances with Guadalajara led him to become the starting goalkeeper for the Mexican national team, with which he played in two World Cups: England 1966 and Mexico 1970.
4. Rojiblanco striker and national team player: Carlos also left his mark on Chivas. He was a key player in the team's attack, to the extent that he became the top scorer in the 1968-1969 Copa México, a remarkable achievement considering that he did not play as a center forward. His great performance earned him a place in the Mexican national team.
5. Titles with Chivas during the Campeonísimo era: The Calderón brothers were protagonists of Guadalajara's most glorious era, accumulating eight official titles with the Rojiblanco jersey:
- League Champion: 1963-64 / 64-65 / 69-70
- Cup Champion: 1962-63 / 1969-70
- Champion of Champions: 1964 / 1965 / 1970
