From the very beginning, destiny seemed to mark his bond with Chivas, as Sabás Ponce was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on January 13, 1937—the same land that years later would see him become one of the greatest legends of the club.
Arrival at the Guadalajara and professional debut
Sabás’ path with Chivas began at a very young age. At just 15 years old, he joined the club from the Liga Interparroquial de Jalisco. His talent quickly stood out in the youth ranks, earning him a place in the first team and the start of a career as long as it was successful.
His official debut with the Guadalajara took place on October 14, 1957, in an away match against Necaxa.
What position did Sabás Ponce play?
Ponce was the axis of the Rojiblanco midfield for many years. His game was defined by tactical intelligence, composure in ball distribution, and exceptional vision that allowed him to find spaces and set up his teammates with precision.
