Some things are simply classic: Estadio Jalisco painted in Rojiblanco, the chants of “Chivas, Chivas” echoing through the stands, and a Guadalajara victory in the Clásico Tapatío. On Saturday night, the Rebaño showed heart and quality soccer to come from behind and defeat their fierce city rival 1-2 in Matchday 10 of the Clausura 2026. With the win, Gabriel Milito’s team remains in the fight for the top spot in the tournament with 21 points.
It was a match patiently and intelligently managed by the Chiverío, who faced an opponent focused mainly on disrupting the flow of play. Despite falling behind early in the game, Chivas kept their composure, trusted their style of play, and quickly turned the situation around.
As the minutes passed, the Rojiblanca side made their dominance increasingly clear, until a long-range strike from the “Hormiga” leveled the score. The goal ignited the celebration in the stands, and backed by their fans, Chivas surged forward until they found their reward through Ángel Sepúlveda, who sealed the match.
With the motivation of having won both clásicos of the tournament, Guadalajara will return home to face Santos on Matchday 11 of the CL26 next Saturday, March 14, at 5 PM at Estadio AKRON.
The Goals
- 12’ — Paulo Ramírez took advantage of a lapse in Chivas’ buildup and opened the scoring for the hosts.
- ‘HORMIGOOOL’! 47’ — Armando González received the ball outside the box, set himself up, and unleashed an unstoppable shot that shook Estadio Jalisco.
- ‘SEPU’ WITH ICE IN HIS VEINS! 83’ — He stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly chipped the ball under Vargas to send the Chivas Nation into celebration.
Dangerous Chances
- 26’ — “Richy” delivered a cross toward “Cotorro” arriving at the far post, but a defensive flick sent the ball out for a corner.
- 30’ — A rebound in the box fell perfectly for Govea at the top of the area; he struck it first-time, but the shot went straight to the goalkeeper.
- So close, Casti! 52’ — A quick short-corner routine opened space for José Castillo, who stretched to push the ball in, but missed contact by inches.
- 68’ — Govea found Sepúlveda inside the box with a lofted pass, but the defense anticipated and cleared for a corner.
- 72’ — Armando struck a penalty with power to his right, but Vargas made the save.
