A Rojiblanca icon is celebrating! Today we honor the birthday of a footballer who left his mark on the history of Guadalajara through goals, dedication, and an unmatched instinct inside the box. Jaime Pajarito González turns 71, a striker who transformed his talent into unforgettable moments wearing the jersey of el Rebaño.

His legacy remains a benchmark for the club, not only because of his goals, but also for the way he embodied the values of Guadalajara on the pitch.

A goal scorer who defined an era

Pajarito established himself as one of the most lethal forwards in the history of Guadalajara. His ability to step up in key moments placed him among the club’s greatest attacking figures.

The historic record

If there is a milestone that cemented the name of Jaime Pajarito González in the history of Guadalajara, it is his remarkable scoring record in a single season.

In the 1980–81 campaign, Jaime Pajarito González recorded a historic total of 27 goals (24 in the regular season and 3 in the playoffs), becoming the club’s top scorer in a single football year—a record that has stood for decades as a symbol of greatness at Guadalajara.

Today, that mark not only remains intact, but also carries special relevance. ‘Pajarito’ himself has acknowledged it: “Hopefully ‘Hormiga’ breaks my record; with the pace he’s on, I think he will.”

And indeed, the current form of Armando ‘Hormiga’ González has brought that record back into the spotlight. The reigning scoring champion has already tallied 24 goals this season and is just three away from matching one of the most iconic records in the club’s history. In this way, ‘Pajarito’s legacy not only endures… it continues to inspire new generations of el Rebaño.

Among his most notable achievements:

  • He was the first Guadalajara player to score three headers in a single match, a feat he achieved against Pumas in the 1980–81 season in a dominant 5-1 victory.
  • He is part of the select group of players with the most goals in the Final Phase in club history, with 5 goals.
  • He ranks among el Rebaño’s top header scorers, with 14 goals via that route.
  • During his time as a Rojiblanco, he recorded two hat-tricks and was known for his efficiency inside the box.

A story that even brought him back from retirement

His commitment to Guadalajara was so strong that he even starred in a rare episode in football.

During the 1986–87 season, after an incident against América that left several players suspended, then-head coach Alberto Guerra called on ‘Pajarito’ to come out of retirement and help the team in a difficult moment.

A gesture that reflects his identity with the club and his willingness to defend the jersey under any circumstance.

Your dedication and passion made you immortal in la Nación Rojiblanca’s memory; that’s why today, all of la Nación Chiva wishes you a very happy birthday, Pajarito!
