Chivas set for a memorable Clausura 2026 finish

09/04/2026 14:56 / Sara Ochoa

The final stretch of the Clausura 2026 is shaping up to be about more than just points for Guadalajara. With four matches left to play and sitting atop the overall standings, Chivas is not only looking to solidify its place at the summit, but also to make history by reaching a series of records that are well within reach.

There are a couple of marks from short tournaments that Chivas is close to surpassing. One of them is total wins, as the 10 victories they have recorded so far in CL26 match their totals from Clausura 2023, Bicentenario 2010, Clausura 2004, and Invierno 1998. One more win would set a new club record.

The other record within reach is total points. Chivas currently has 31, just three shy of matching their totals from Clausura 2023, Clausura 2004, Invierno 1998, and Verano 1997. Interestingly, in all four previous instances in which they reached that number of points, the team went on to play in the Final.

On top of that, Guadalajara is very close to securing a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. Sitting third in the annual standings with 59 points, the team needs at least two more to clinch qualification.

On the individual front, Armando González is enjoying a near-perfect run of form. The striker has scored in five consecutive matches and, with 12 goals, leads the league’s scoring chart. He is also on track to achieve something unprecedented in club history in Liga MX: becoming the first back-to-back Golden Boot winner.

Additionally, with 24 goals across the Apertura 2025 and Clausura 2026, “Hormiga” is just four goals away from surpassing Jaime “Pajarito” González’s record as the club’s top scorer in a single season.

With both team and individual milestones in sight, Gabriel Milito’s side is heading toward a tournament finish that could be remembered as one of the most remarkable in recent club history.
