Mexico put the finishing touches on its preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in style! Led by an important contribution from Chivas players, El Tri cruised to a 5-1 victory over Serbia at the Estadio Nemesio Diez and will now turn its full attention to its World Cup opener against South Africa.
Among Javier Aguirre’s starting XI were Raúl Rangel, Brian Gutiérrez, and Roberto Alvarado, all of whom brought the energy and dynamism that have become trademarks of Chivas players.
‘Tala’ played the full 90 minutes and provided confidence between the posts. Meanwhile, Brian featured for 59 minutes and recorded the assist on Mexico’s opening goal, delivering a pinpoint cross that found Johan Vásquez. Finally, ‘Piojo’ Alvarado was substituted in the 73rd minute after consistently creating danger down the right flank.
The Chivas presence didn’t end there, as Luis Romo also came on in the 73rd minute, bringing the leadership and composure he regularly displays on the pitch. Armando González remained on the bench.
There is now exactly one week left before we see Guadalajara’s five representatives in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when Mexico kicks off the tournament against South Africa on Thursday, June 11, at Estadio Ciudad de México.
