The Rojiblanca Academy once again made its mark on the international stage. Mexico were crowned champions of the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship after completing a perfect tournament with six wins in six matches, and they did it with eight Guadalajara players as part of the squad that lifted the title.
Cristo Navarrete, Sebastián Liceaga, Carlos Hernández, Yohan Orozco, Diego Covarrubias, Samir Inda, Santiago Sandoval and Hugo Camberos were the players who carried the Rojiblanco DNA throughout the tournament, and all eight saw action during the competition. It was yet another example of the talent that continues to emerge from Mexico’s best academy and is now part of the team that put the country at the top of the region.
Hugo Camberos, the champion’s top scorer
Hugo Camberos was one of the tournament’s biggest stars. The Guadalajara forward finished as the competition’s top scorer with five goals and was also named the tournament’s best player after receiving the Golden Ball, confirming his tremendous impact throughout Mexico’s title-winning campaign.
Camberos scored during the Group Stage and continued to find the back of the net in the knockout rounds. However, his most important goal came in the Semifinals against Canada, when he stepped up from the penalty spot and converted to make it 2-1, sending Mexico through to the Grand Final.
In addition to securing Mexico’s place in the Final, that penalty came with an even greater reward. With the victory over Canada, the national team secured its qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, making the Rojiblanco forward a key figure in one of the most important moments of the tournament.
Cristo Navarrete, the tournament’s Golden Glove winner
The individual honors for the Rojiblanco players also extended to the goalkeeping position. Cristo Navarrete was awarded the Golden Glove, recognizing him as the tournament’s best goalkeeper after conceding just one goal throughout the entire competition, a remarkable figure that reflected the confidence and security he provided between the posts.
The goalkeeper from the Rojiblanca Academy was a key piece in Mexico’s run to the title, delivering when his team needed him most and showcasing the composure and reliability that have characterized his performances.
Sandoval and Orozco also made their mark
The Rojiblanco presence was also felt during other important moments of the tournament. Santiago Sandoval was one of the players who found the back of the net during the Group Stage, contributing to Mexico’s strong campaign and perfect run into the decisive rounds.
Meanwhile, Yohan Orozco stepped up during a key moment in the knockout stage. The Rojiblanco defender scored against Panama in the Quarterfinals, contributing to the convincing victory that sent El Tri through to the next round.
A generation with Rojiblanco DNA
Mexico’s Concacaf title represents much more than another trophy for Mexican soccer. Mexico secured its place at the 2027 U-20 World Cup and also earned a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the Rojiblanca Academy once again confirmed its ability to provide talent and competitiveness to Mexico’s national teams.
With eight players among the championship-winning generation, Chivas was the club with the largest representation in the tournament and once again showed that the future of Mexican soccer is also being built at the Rojiblanca Academy.
