Chivas defeat Rayados with authority and strengthen their position near the top of AP26

24/10/2026 21:13 / Roberto García

Chivas continue to make their mark on the Apertura 2026, proving it this Saturday at Estadio Monterrey with an authoritative 1-0 victory over Rayados on Matchday 14. With this result, Gabriel Milito’s side reached 26 points in the tournament, securing second place in the overall standings.

The weekend’s most anticipated match did not disappoint. The Gigante de Acero welcomed two high-quality teams, but Guadalajara proved better at reading the flow of the game. Taking the lead before the 10-minute mark worked in the Rojiblancos’ favor, putting the pressure on the Monterrey side and allowing El Rebaño to focus its collective efforts on exploiting gaps in Rayados’ defense.

Despite heavy rain pouring down on the Guadalupe stadium, the conditions ultimately increased the pace of the contest, and Chiverío rose to the occasion. The team neutralized Rayados’ attempts while creating clear opportunities in front of Andrada’s goal to extend its lead.

Estadio AKRON is already preparing to welcome Chivas back as they host Atlante next Saturday, October 31, on Matchday 15 of AP26.

The goal

- A lethal counterattack! In the 8th minute, Sandoval won the ball in Monterrey’s half, carried it forward, and set up ‘Piojo’ Alvarado, who struck a first-time right-footed shot across goal to beat Andrada.

Dangerous chances

- ‘TALAAAA’! In the 18th minute, a penalty was awarded to Rayados, but Rangel’s brilliant save prevented the hosts from equalizing.

- In the 30th minute, ‘Sando’ pounced on a series of rebounds at the edge of the box and hit a volley toward the far post, but the goalkeeper held on to the shot.

- In the 40th minute, Santiago had another chance, this time connecting with a cross to the far post from ‘Oso’ González that left him unmarked for a header, but he could not direct it accurately enough.

- In the 49th minute, the ball reached ‘Cotorro’, who controlled it inside the box and unleashed a low left-footed shot that Andrada managed to gather, although not without difficulty.

- SO CLOSE, CASTAÑEDA! In the 69th minute, following a great run down the right, ‘Efra’ played a diagonal pass into the box for Kevin, who looked set to score, but a defensive intervention sent the ball out for a corner.

- On the ensuing play, another loose ball inside the box fell to Diego Campillo, who struck it with the inside of his right foot in front of goal, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar.

- In the 84th minute, Castañeda tried his luck from distance with a powerful shot aimed at the near post, but it missed by just a few inches.
