As if it were written in a movie script, fate has brought Chivas Femenil and América face to face in the 34th edition of El Clásico de México, a match that will close out the Apertura 2026 regular season for both teams. Both the Rojiblancas and Azulcremas have secured their places in the Liga Femenil playoffs, but that takes nothing away from the special significance of a match of this magnitude.
Just as there are special matches, there are also players who transform themselves when they step onto the pitch for these occasions. One of them is Alicia Cervantes, Guadalajara’s all-time leading goalscorer and the player with the most goals in the historic rivalry between the two fiercest rivals in Mexican women’s football.
With 15 goals against the Mexico City side, ‘Licha’ has made Las Águilas one of her favorite opponents. Her scoring instinct against the Azulcremas is so remarkable that she has actually found the net against them more often in the playoffs than in the regular season.
Cervantes’ goalscoring ability is no secret, but Guadalajara’s legendary number 24 is much more than goals: she brings speed, determination, and an exceptional ability to read the flow of play, allowing her to be in the right place at precisely the right moment. Above all, however, ‘Licha’ represents an unconditional love for Club Deportivo Guadalajara.
And when it comes to tipping the scales in El Clásico de México, having Alicia Cervantes on your side will always be an advantage. This Friday, ‘Licha’ will step onto the pitch at Estadio AKRON to defend the club she loves, and she will surely look to do what she does best: score against América.
Alicia Cervantes by the Numbers
