Reaching a World Cup is one of the biggest milestones in any soccer player's career. Getting to that stage takes more than just talent: it requires discipline, consistency, and preparation that begins at the youth academy level. André Godínez, a product of the Cantera Rojiblanca, is a perfect example, having recently earned a call-up to Mexico's U17 National Team for the FIFA U17 World Cup Qatar 2026.
With that in mind, let's take a closer look at his story, his strengths on the field, and the journey he has taken through Guadalajara's youth academy.
Where Is André From?
André Godínez Saucedo was born on January 20, 2009, in Uruapan, Michoacán, Mexico, where he first developed his passion for soccer.
What Position Does He Play?
Godínez plays as a center back. His height, defensive awareness, and ability to anticipate opponents' movements are among the qualities that stand out in his game.
When Did He Join the Cantera Rojiblanca?
André joined Guadalajara in the Apertura 2023, beginning his journey with the U14 squad. Since then, he has progressed through different age groups within the club, gaining valuable experience and playing time at every stage.
During his time with the U14 team, he made 28 appearances and logged 2,255 minutes across the Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024 tournaments. He later moved up to the U15 squad, where he recorded 21 appearances and 1,619 minutes during the Apertura 2024 and Clausura 2025.
At the U17 level, he played 29 matches and accumulated 2,087 minutes between the Apertura 2024 and Apertura 2026. He also featured for the U19 team in the 2026-2027 Copa Promesas and, combining that competition with the Clausura 2026 and Apertura 2026 tournaments, has made eight appearances and played 577 minutes.
Altogether, André has registered 86 appearances and 6,538 minutes with the Cantera Rojiblanca, including both regular-season and playoff matches.
A World Cup Call-Up With Mexico U17
His performances have also earned him opportunities at different levels of Mexico's National Team setup. Among his international experiences are a call-up to the U16 squad for the 2025 Four Nations Tournament and his participation with the national team in the 2025-2026 Torneo del Sol.
Now, that journey has led him to a new challenge: competing in the FIFA U17 World Cup Qatar 2026. There, he will have the opportunity to represent Mexico and carry the ADN Rojiblanco onto one of the biggest stages in international youth soccer.
