Chivas wants to achieve something unprecedented in its visit to Tigres

21/02/2023 18:17 / Enrique Noriega

The clash between Guadalajara and Tigres this Saturday at the Universitario, Matchday 9 of the CL23, has plenty of ingredients to make it a great match; 2 of the teams that are fighting at the top of the table will be facing each other, 2 of the best defenses will be facing each other, the recent sporting rivalry undoubtedly adds a lot to the expectation and this time there is also an achievement to unlock for the red & white squad.

What is it all about? First, this will be Chivas' sixth away game so far this season. In the previous 5, they’ve won 3 and drawn 2, which means they are the best away team of the campaign with 11 points, they will be looking to extend their undefeated record in this category.

But it is not only a question of going 6 out of 6 in terms of unlost matches away from home in the current championship, but also of going for 6 out of 6 points specifically in Monterrey. What are we talking about? Well, we must remember that El Rebaño Sagrado overcame the Rayados on opening day of the CL23.

That's where the achievement to be unlocked comes from: Chivas has never beaten both La Pandilla and Tigres as visitors in the same semester in the history of short tournaments. Of course, we have to consider that in that period from 1996 to date it has not been common for El Rebaño to visit both in the same semester, in addition to the fact that two tournaments are not counted (Winter '96 and Summer '97) because UANL was in Primera 'A'.

However, if we go back to the long term seasons, which at that time were played with reciprocal visits during the regular phase of the same tournament, the last time Chivas beat both teams at La Sultana del Norte was in the 1987-1988 season, El Chiverío beat Tigres 1-2 in MatchDay 8 and Rayados 0-1 in MatchDay 17.
