One of the most cherished dreams for any child who loves football is to step onto the pitch as a professional. For those fortunate enough to achieve it, that moment is unforgettable. That’s why today, the entire Nación Rojiblanca comes together to remember one of the most important milestones in the career of Roberto 'El Piojo' Alvarado, as on a day like today—nine years ago—his journey in First Division football began. Below, we take a look back at his professional career.

When did he make his First Division debut?

'Piojo' Alvarado made his First Division debut on January 14, 2017, while wearing the colors of Pachuca, in a match against Jaguares de Chiapas corresponding to Matchday 2 of the Clausura 2017. The Tuzos won 1–0 at Estadio Hidalgo.

In which minute did he make his debut?

Alvarado came on as a substitute in the 86th minute, replacing Rubén Botta, the scorer of the match’s only goal. That appearance marked the first step of a journey that would eventually establish him as a national-team-caliber player. Just a few matchdays later, he earned his first start against Rayados in Matchday 7 of the CL17. That tournament, he featured in 9 matches, starting 4 of them.

How many matches has he played as a professional?

Throughout his career, Roberto Alvarado has worn several First Division shirts—Pachuca, Necaxa, Cruz Azul, and Chivas—amassing a total of 296 professional appearances, 141 of them with the Rebaño Sagrado. Along the way, he has scored 47 goals, 29 of them with Guadalajara.

Beyond the numbers, 'Piojo' has built his career on consistency, personality on the pitch, and a steady footballing evolution that today places him among the most important attacking players for the Rojiblancos. His performances have seen him become a key piece in Gabriel Milito’s system, while also earning the recognition and affection of the entire Nación Rojiblanca.

World Cup experience

His growth and regularity have also taken him onto the international stage. Roberto Alvarado was part of the Mexican National Team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and is currently a regular name in El Tri call-ups, positioning himself as a strong candidate to feature again on the road to the FIFA World Cup 2026.

For your match-by-match commitment and love for these colors, the entire Nación Rojiblanca wishes you a happy ninth anniversary, 'Piojo'!
