Barça Legends claimed the Legends Cup with a 3-2 win over Real Madrid Legends on Tuesday night at Estadio AKRON, as the electric atmosphere of the Spanish Clásico rivalry took over the stadium in what became a night to remember.
Fans from both sides in Guadalajara soaked in every moment of the show put on by these historic stars. During their visit, they also got to see firsthand that our city and La Casa de los Mexicanos are more than ready, with just 100 days to go until kickoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Hala Madrid!” and “Visca el Barça!” echoed loudly around the Rojiblanco venue, and every skill move, every team play, and every goal was celebrated in full during a true soccer party.
The blaugranas struck early in the 5th minute with a stunning goal from Javier Saviola, who pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired a rocket into the top-left corner. Ten minutes later, Gaizka Mendieta slipped a perfectly timed through ball that left Saviola one-on-one with Iker Casillas. The Argentine calmly slotted a low shot inside the right post to complete his brace. Later on, Fernando Hierro pulled one back for Los Blancos from the penalty spot, sending a right-footed strike past Jesús Angoy with no chance for the keeper.
Although Barcelona had the upper hand in the first half, Madrid pushed back after the break and leveled the run of play. Still, despite creating several chances, they couldn’t find the equalizer.
One of the most emotional moments of the night belonged to Fernando Hierro himself, as the former Club Deportivo Guadalajara executive was honored for his professional career ahead of what marked his final match.
Before the clash between the Spanish giants’ biggest icons, a preliminary match between Mexico’s Ambassadors and Jalisco Legends ended in a 2-2 draw. Players like Adolfo Bautista, Ramón Morales, Joel Sánchez, Héctor Reynoso, Matías Vuoso, and Pável Pardo all took part.
