Today, the Rojiblanca Nation celebrates the 40th birthday of one of Guadalajara’s greatest icons: Jair Pereira. His leadership, character, and commitment made him one of the cornerstones of the championship-winning team coached by Matías Almeyda, as well as one of the most beloved captains among Chivahermanos.
His First Steps in Football
Jair Pereira was born on July 7, 1985, in Cuautla, Morelos, and built his professional career through hard work and perseverance. He made his Liga MX debut on August 3, 2011, beginning a journey that would eventually lead him to wear the jersey of Guadalajara, where he established himself as one of the club’s most respected figures.
The Arrival of ‘The Commander’ at Guadalajara
Ahead of the Clausura 2014, he joined the Sacred Flock to strengthen the Rojiblanca back line. It did not take long for him to earn the trust of the coaching staff and the admiration of the fans thanks to his commanding presence on the field, his leadership, and the intensity with which he defended every ball.

If there is one moment forever etched in the memory of the Rojiblanca faithful, it is the Clausura 2016 Clásico Tapatío. Deep into stoppage time, ‘The Commander’ rose inside the box to head home the winning goal that gave Guadalajara a victory over Atlas, sparking one of the most unforgettable celebrations in recent years.
Championship Victory over Tigres
Jair was also one of the standout performers in the Clausura 2017 Final against Tigres. As a starter, he led the Rojiblancadefense with an outstanding display that proved crucial as Guadalajara captured its 12th league title.
Beyond the trophies, Jair Pereira left a legacy that extended far beyond the pitch.
