Relive Chivas’ Greatest Victories Over León at the Nou Camp

06/11/2026 15:05 / Sara Ochoa

The Rebaño Sagrado knows exactly how to tame La Fiera on its own turf. Throughout its history, Guadalajara has delivered memorable performances against León at the Nou Camp, creating moments that remain etched in the minds of Chivahermanos. Ahead of this Sunday’s Matchweek 16 clash in the Apertura 2026, we look back at some of Chivas’ most remarkable victories at the Bonito León Rojiblanco.

‘Snoopy’ Becomes the Hero

The 1983-84 season left behind a memorable story in the history of this rivalry. Chivas claimed a 2-1 victory, but the most remarkable moment came when Ricardo Pérez, known as ‘Snoopy’, had to step in as goalkeeper following the sending-off of Javier Ledesma, ‘Zully’. The Rojiblanco player rose to the occasion by making a save against a shot from Alonso Oviedo, becoming the hero of that night.

A Historic Comeback

During the Apertura 2012, Chivas pulled off one of their most thrilling comebacks against León. Despite being reduced to 10 men following Xavier Báez’s sending-off and losing Marco Fabián to injury, Guadalajara found a way to claim all three points. Even after the home side took the lead in the 76th minute, Chivas never stopped pushing forward.

In the 82nd minute, Jorge Enríquez, known as ‘Chatón’, leveled the score with a header. Then, in stoppage time, Rafael Márquez Lugo stepped up to take a free kick and completed the 2-1 comeback.

Chivas Put a Dent in León’s Clausura 2021 Crown

With an outstanding display of football and a strong desire to win, Chivas defeated the reigning Liga MX champions 3-1 in Matchweek 5 of the tournament. Their relentless pressure allowed the Rebaño to open the scoring through a spectacular goal by Jesús Sánchez, ‘Chapo’, in the 22nd minute. José Juan Macías added another just before halftime, while Alejandro Mayorga sealed the emphatic victory in the 83rd minute.

Three Points and Three Debuts

The Apertura 2023 got off to a perfect start for the Rebaño Sagrado, as Guadalajara visited León and came away with a 2-1 victory. On top of that, three Rojiblanco academy players made their First Division debuts that night, and one of them scored the winning goal.

Antonio Briseño, ‘Pollo’, opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a powerful right-footed strike following a set-piece routine that caught the home side by surprise. Four minutes later, Los Panzas Verdes equalized, but in the 80th minute, Yael Padilla made his mark. Not only did he make his debut in Mexico’s top flight, but he also scored his first goal for Chivas. The academy graduate made a run down the right flank and, after receiving a pass from Víctor Guzmán, fired a right-footed shot into the near post to find the back of the net.

A Strong Finish to the Clausura 2023

Chivas arrived at the Nou Camp needing a win in Matchweek 15 and, with plenty of character and quality football, defeated León 2-0. The result propelled the Rebaño into third place in the overall standings at the time.

Pável Pérez, who had only been on the pitch for a few seconds, brought down a perfectly weighted pass from Alexis Vega as if it were glued to his foot. Once inside the box, he calmly finished past Rodolfo Cota as the goalkeeper rushed off his line.

In the 72nd minute, Rubén González put the result beyond doubt after getting the better of the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation and slotting the ball into the net with a shot placed close to the right post.
