Oswaldo Sánchez: remembering a Guadalajara legend.

21/09/2025 12:43 / Club Deportivo Guadalajara

This Sunday, September 21, is not just any day, as a Guadalajara legend is celebrating his birthday, and with the affection he deserves, we will review his outstanding career between the posts. That's right, we're talking about Oswaldo Sánchez, who has reached the age of 52.

Since his arrival at Chivas in the 1999 Winter tournament, Oswaldo has forged a career marked by leadership, dedication, and unforgettable moments. His official debut with the Rebaño Sagrado was on August 15, 1999, when they defeated Morelia 2-0, and from that day on, he made it clear that the Rojiblanco goal would be in the best hands.

He had a long career with Chivas, playing 272 official matches, which he approached with passion, determination, and responsibility. In addition, Oswaldo Sánchez left an indelible mark on the memory of the Rojiblanco Nation, as he was the captain who lifted the Liga MX trophy won by Guadalajara in the 2006 Apertura.

His greatness is not only measured in titles, but also in accolades. In 2005, FIFA named him the best goalkeeper of the Confederations Cup, ahead of stars such as Dida and Oliver Kahn, which speaks to his stature between the posts.

But beyond his saves and honors, Oswaldo earned something very special: the deep affection of the fans and the respect of his teammates. In total, Sánchez played seven years with the Rebaño Sagrado, during which he left unforgettable performances in Liga MX, Copa Libertadores, and even the Copa Merconorte, a competition in which he scored a header against Ecuador's Nacional.

When it comes to his career with the national team, there is also much to highlight. Oswaldo was called up for three consecutive World Cups, starting in France in 1998 and ending in Germany in 2006. With El Tri, he competed in many prestigious tournaments, including three Copa América, three Gold Cups, three Confederations Cups, one Pan American Games, one Olympic Games, and one Under-20 World Cup.

On this special day, the Rojiblanca Nation remembers you for what you are: more than a goalkeeper, a Guadalajara legend.

Happy birthday, 'San Oswaldo'!
